ESFD has contracted Elie Maalouf Company to test and equip a well in Qobbeh - Tripoli North Lebanon, under the supervision of Liban Consult. Tripoli is the second largest city of L...
Well location
The well of Qobbeh occupies a small part of the right bank of Abou Ali River, distant about 120 meters about the first well.
Tectonic of the region
The region of Lebanon corresponds to a 25 rightward bend of the left lateral. Dead Sea Transform or Levant Fault System (LFS . This bend (Lebanese Restraining Bend LRB extends from the Hula basin (N33 in the South to the Homs gap (N34 40 in the North. In contrast with the rather modest relief of adjacent regions, this area shows the highest and widest mountain ranges of all the Levant (Mt Lebanon, 3100m ASL, and Anti-Lebanon ranges, 2800m . The LFS is the plate boundary between the Arabia and Nubia (Sinai plates. Tectonic setting of the Eastern Mediterranean (Levantine region. Geology of Tripoli region
The right bank of Abu Ali River shows at the surface a lake marl Miocene Ml basement, called by marl of Nahr Arka, the left bank of the river is covered by fluvial conglomerates that cap the Under Ml. Downstairs there are marl conglomerates of Nahr el bared Ml1 covering Miocene - Vindobonian m2 limestone. Vindobonian Karst aquifer. The hard and soluble limestone rocks of the Vindobonian m2 are fractured, with a solution permeability they are known as forming a karstic aquifer . Aquifer in which groundwater developed a conduit system, connecting the surface to caves and natural galleries at depth.
The karst system model
The limestone outcrops are often irregular, marked with potholes (formed when the roofs of shallow caves collapse , sinkholes and closed depressions, and few seasonal streams, most of which are short in length and end in a sinkhole. This landscape is known as karst, limestone plateau in the Dinaric Alps of northwest Slovenia and northeast Italy. Studies in the Mediterranean carbonate aquifers consider that about 40 of the total volume of rainfall infiltrate and recharge the karst groundwater reserves.
Cutting rocks examination
From the surface of the earth and up to 100 meters depth, cutting shows
Lake marl of nahr such as El Arka, designed by Ml continental
Miocene.
From 100 a150 meters conglomerate such as Nahr el bared ML1.
From 150 and up to 241 meters compact reef limestone continental middle Miocene vidobonian m2.
